When Salesforce native screens are not enough

Salesforce runs your data, and its out-of-the-box experience takes you part of the way. The native mobile app is generic. Experience Cloud gives you a portal, but not always the one your customers or members need. Service Cloud handles cases well for agents, less so for the people lodging them.

When you reach that ceiling, you do not replace Salesforce. You build the experience your people need on top of the platform you already run, designed around their real tasks. That is what we mean by salesforce app development: it starts with research and design, then a custom build, with Salesforce as the system of record underneath.

Three things we build on Salesforce

Across all three, the design is the work and Salesforce is the platform of record underneath.

  • Custom mobile apps.Custom iOS and Android apps that read and write your Salesforce data through its API, for people working away from a desk: field teams, support workers, inspectors, anyone who needs the platform in their pocket rather than on a laptop.
  • Portals on Experience Cloud.Authenticated customer, member or partner portals built on Salesforce Experience Cloud, on top of the data already in your Salesforce, designed around what your audience has to do there.
  • Case and service experiences.Custom case-management, complaints and field-service flows on Service Cloud, designed for the people lodging and tracking a case as well as the agents managing it.

How we work

We are a design-led team. Every build starts with research, information architecture and testing with real users, then a custom interface, then the engineering that connects it cleanly to Salesforce through its API. The platform stays your system of record. The experience on top is the part we design and build, and it is where these projects are won or lost.

We work alongside your existing Salesforce partner or admin team, not around them. They own the platform, its data model and its configuration. We bring the research, UX, UI and custom build that sits on top, and it is often the Salesforce partner who brings us in, for exactly the design and custom-development work that complements their platform expertise.

Built on the Salesforce Yooralla already ran

For the disability services provider Yooralla, our work spans two of these. We built a customer portal on Salesforce Experience Cloud, and Customer Stories, a mobile app built in React Native for support workers in the field. A worker can capture a moment, a photo and a short sentence, and tag it to a client goal in seconds. The app connects to Yooralla’s Salesforce platform over the Force API, so a story captured on a phone reaches the same client record the rest of the organisation works from, with no second system to reconcile.

More than 4,000 progress stories were created in the first month, each landing against the goal it belonged to, ready to support the next NDIS funding review.

Design-led, Australian, in-house since 2008

Conduct is an Australian design and engineering team, in-house since 2008, and a 7x Good Design Award winner. We are not a Salesforce implementation partner, and that is the point: we are the research, UX, UI and custom-development capability that sits on top of Salesforce, the part a platform partner is not always set up to do. We bring accessibility (WCAG 2.2 AA) and a properly designed custom build to work that is often treated as configuration.

Frequently asked questions

Can you build a native mobile app on our existing Salesforce?+

Yes. We build native iOS and Android apps that read and write your Salesforce data through its API, so the app your team uses in the field works from the same records as everything else. There is no second system to keep in sync, and no need to replace Salesforce to get a well-designed app on top of it.

Are you a Salesforce partner?+

No, and it is worth being clear about why. We are a design and custom-development team that builds on top of Salesforce. Salesforce partners own the platform, the configuration and the admin. We bring the research, UX, UI and custom build, the work a platform partner is not always set up to do. We are often brought in by the partner themselves for exactly that.

Do you work alongside our existing Salesforce partner or admin team?+

Yes, and it is the usual arrangement. Your Salesforce partner or in-house admins keep owning the platform, its data model and its configuration. We design and build the custom app, portal or case experience that sits on top, and integrate it through the Salesforce API. The two roles complement each other rather than overlap.

Experience Cloud or a custom portal: which do we need?+

It depends on what the portal has to do. Experience Cloud is a fast way to stand up an authenticated portal on your existing Salesforce data, and for many customer or member portals it is the right call. Where the experience needs to go further than Experience Cloud comfortably allows, we build a custom front end on top of the same Salesforce data. We help you make that call rather than defaulting to one.

Will it use the Salesforce data we already hold?+

Yes. These builds sit on top of your existing Salesforce as the system of record, integrated through its API. We are extending what you already run, not migrating you off it.

What does a Salesforce app or portal build cost?+

It depends on the number of user types, the depth of the Salesforce integration and the design scope. A focused build starts from around A$60,000; a substantial enterprise app with deep integration, a native mobile app writing back to Salesforce for example, runs from around A$150,000 to A$250,000 or more. We scope it properly up front so the number is real before you commit.
