Web application development
We design and build the custom web applications, portals and platforms that organisations run on, with senior engineers in Australia since 2008.

The software your organisation runs on
A web application is the software your organisation works in every day: the portal your customers log into, the platform your staff run operations on, the system that holds your data and your process. It has to be fast, secure, accessible and reliable, because people depend on it to do their jobs.
We are a design-led engineering team, and that shapes how we build. The research, the information architecture, the data model and the user experience are worked out before anyone writes production code, because that is where a web application is won or lost. That upstream work is why the applications we build get adopted and keep being used.
Built to scale, and yours to own
We have been building custom software since 2008, across government, health, enterprise and not-for-profit work, and we are a 7x Good Design Award winner. Our engineers are in-house and in Australia, so the people who design your application are the people who build and support it.
We stay on after launch, and most clients keep us on a light retainer for the bigger changes, so the application keeps pace with the organisation. You own the code, the data and the application throughout.

How we build a web application
A substantial web application rests on a layer of work that never shows on the surface. Here is how we approach a build, from first principles to a live system. The steps overlap, and we often prototype and test the riskiest ideas with real users before engineering commits. If you already have research or designs done, whether your own or from an earlier engagement with us, we pick up from there.
- Discovery. We work with you to understand the problem, the users and the goals, and capture it as a clear statement of requirements: what the application needs to do, why, and what success looks like. This sets the direction for everything that follows.
- User experience and interface design. Our UX and UI design practice applied to software: research, prototyping and user testing that shape the product strategy and what we build, through to the detailed, dev-ready interface design the build works from. It comes early because it defines the product itself, and every screen is shaped around real tasks and accessible from the first wireframe.
- Solution architecture. With the product defined, we set the detailed functional and non-functional requirements, then design the technical backbone: system and integration architecture, the data and security model, the stack, and the cloud infrastructure (on Azure, services like App Service, Azure SQL, Entra ID and Application Insights on a CI/CD pipeline). The test strategy and the AI tooling we use to speed delivery are set here too.
- The right delivery method. We choose the project management approach to suit the client and the team mix, whether that is Scrum, Agile, Waterfall or a hybrid, and run delivery on Waypoint, our own project platform. Imagine Jira, Confluence, Smartsheet and Google Docs, plus reporting and more, in one simple application, so you get a single, clear view of progress.
- Engineering that scales. We build in a maintainable architecture on a modern stack (.NET, Node, React and Azure), using AI tools to speed delivery where they help, so the application grows with more users, data and features without a rewrite a year later.
- Integrations and APIs.We connect the application to the CRMs, payment systems and identity providers it needs, and expose clean APIs so the data is usable by everything that comes next, including automation and AI agents.
- Data migration and transformation.Where you are replacing an existing system, we map, clean and transform your data and load it into the new platform so it is consistent and production-ready. We run trial migrations and validate the results well before go-live.
- Testing and quality assurance. We execute the test strategy throughout the build: automated unit, integration and end-to-end tests, plus performance, accessibility and security testing, so the application is proven before it ships.
- Security and compliance.Secure-by-design engineering throughout, built to meet the privacy, security and compliance obligations your sector demands.
- Performance and monitoring. We load-test before launch and instrument the application with proper monitoring, so we can analyse real performance data, tune the system under load, and stabilise it through the critical early period after go-live.
- Launch and ongoing support. We handle launch end to end: user acceptance testing, a managed go-live, and training so your team is ready on day one. After go-live we support the application under a service level agreement, with business-as-usual maintenance that keeps it secure and stable through critical periods. Most clients stay on a retainer so the product keeps evolving with your organisation.
Outgrown your spreadsheets, an Access database, or a Power Apps build that has hit its ceiling? This is the work that replaces them with a web application built to scale.

Talk to a senior engineerFrequently asked questions
What does a custom web application cost in Australia?+−
A custom web application typically runs from around A$60,000 to A$150,000 or more, depending on the number of user types, the depth of the data model, and the integrations involved. Most of the cost is in the design and engineering of the thing itself, not licensing. We scope properly up front so the number is real before you commit, and we will tell you if your need is smaller than a custom build warrants.
What is the difference between a web application and a website?+−
A website tells people about your organisation. A web application is software people do work in: logging in, entering and managing data, completing tasks, seeing results. A web application has accounts, permissions, a data model and business logic behind it. If you need a marketing site instead, our website design and development practice covers that.
Web application or custom software: which do we need?+−
The words overlap and the decision usually matters less than it sounds. A web application is custom software delivered through the browser, which is what most organisations want today. If your need spans desktop systems, deep back-office integration or enterprise platforms, our broader custom software development practice covers it. We help you make that call rather than selling you a category.
Can you replace our spreadsheets, Access database or Power Apps build?+−
Yes, and it is one of the more common reasons organisations come to us. Spreadsheets, an Access database or a low-code build are a good way to start and a hard way to scale: they hit ceilings on concurrent users, data integrity, security and cost. We rebuild the logic and the data model properly as a custom web application, so the thing your organisation depends on is built to last.
What technologies do you build web applications with?+−
We work across .NET, Node, React and Azure, and we choose the stack to fit the job rather than the other way around. We build clean APIs and sane data models, which keeps the application maintainable and ready for whatever connects to it next, including automation and AI agents.
Will we own the application and the code?+−
Yes. You own the code, the data and the application. We are an in-house Australian team and we hand over properly, with documentation and training. Most clients stay on a light retainer for the bigger changes, but that is your choice, not a lock-in.
