Custom software development

Conduct offers comprehensive app design and app development services. Every outcome, from consulting to systems integration, implementation and ongoing maintenance, is custom-built and validated with research. We’re across client, server and API technologies and languages. The solutions we design lean on mainstream, open-source technology that’s easy to host, service and maintain.

What is human-centred tech and what makes it so great?

The benefits of designing for usability
Human-centred design boils down to creating systems that match people’s needs in the intended context of use. The custom web platforms we develop are built around a sound understanding of both user and business requirements. Effective tech considers how people work, how they think, what they want (and why), their perceptions and how the introduction of technology may affect their day-to-day. A design-driven approach ensures our solutions are useful, usable, flexible and future-proof.

App development services

App developers in Melbourne and Sydney

From native mobile apps to web platforms, we have built connected, award-winning apps for organisations that carry real weight. The Royal Children’s Hospital Okee app prepares children for medical imaging. The Victorian Electoral Commission’s Voters Voice app makes voting accessible with Auslan and screen-reader support. We have built member apps for the Melbourne Cricket Club and the Victoria Racing Club, and for Yooralla a native app that captures support stories in the field and writes them straight back to their Salesforce platform. Seven of our projects have won Good Design Awards.

Melbourne's Leading App Developers

Our entire team is Australia-based. For us, this promotes connection and efficiency. For our clients, it means reliable communication and timely service.

Industries we service include, but are not limited to:

The apps we build

Most of our app work falls into a few shapes, and the right one depends on who uses it and where.

  • Native iOS and Android.Built for performance and for people working away from a desk: field teams, clinicians, inspectors, members on the move. Native is the right call when the app leans on the camera, offline use, notifications or the device itself.
  • Cross-platform apps.Where one codebase across iOS and Android suits the budget and the feature set, we build in React Native. The Yooralla Customer Stories app is React Native, presented as a native app and integrated with the Salesforce Force API.
  • Web applications and progressive web apps. When the work happens in a browser, on any device, a web app or PWA reaches people without an app-store download. The same design rigour applies.
  • Apps that integrate with the systems you already run. Most enterprise apps are only useful if they read and write the data that lives elsewhere, in Salesforce, a finance system or a custom database. We build the experience on top and connect it cleanly through APIs.

How we build an app

We are a design-led team, and that shapes the order we work in.

  1. Research and definition. We start with the people who will use the app and the job it has to do, then map the flows and the data before any visual design begins. This is where an app is won or lost.
  2. Design and prototyping.Information architecture, interface design and a working prototype we can test with real users, so the build starts from something proven rather than assumed.
  3. Build.Native, cross-platform or web, built on mainstream, well-supported technology that is straightforward to host and maintain.
  4. Integration.Connecting the app to your existing systems through clean APIs, so it works from the same records as everything else, with no second system to reconcile.
  5. Launch and support.App-store submission, release, and the ongoing work to keep the app current as your organisation and the platforms it runs on change.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to develop an app in Australia?+

It depends on the number of user types, the platforms (iOS, Android, web), the depth of integration with your existing systems and the design scope. A focused build starts from around A$60,000; a substantial enterprise app with deep integration and a native mobile build runs from around A$150,000 to A$250,000 or more. We scope it properly up front so the number is real before you commit.

How long does it take to build an app?+

A focused first release is usually a few months from kickoff; a larger enterprise app with deep integration takes longer. Because we prototype and test before the full build, you see a working version early rather than waiting until the end to find out whether it works.

Native or cross-platform: which is right for us?+

Native (separate iOS and Android builds) suits apps that lean heavily on device features, offline use or performance. Cross-platform (one React Native codebase) suits apps where the feature set is well served by a shared build and the budget favours it. We help you make that call against your actual requirements rather than defaulting to one.

Do you build for both iOS and Android?+

Yes. We build for both, either as separate native apps or as a single cross-platform build, depending on what the app has to do.

Can the app connect to our existing systems?+

Yes. Most of the enterprise apps we build read and write data that lives in another system, such as Salesforce, a finance platform or a custom database. We build the app experience and integrate it through APIs so it works from the same records as the rest of your organisation.

Do you maintain the app after launch?+

Yes. We stay on after release to keep the app current as your organisation grows and as the operating systems and devices it runs on change. An app needs to keep pace.
